Fan speed of your AC system does not affect your MPG, but your air conditioning can reduce your vehicle’s fuel economy by 10 percent. Get the air cool with the AC then use the recycle inside air. Your car won’t work as hard to keep the climate comfortable.

2. Park in the shade: The cooler you can keep your car while it is parked the less work it will have to do to cool down. If you can’t park in the garage or in the shade somewhere get a windshield shade. They are inexpensive and you can get a unique one. Eventually it will pay for itself.

1. Roll down the window: At speeds under 40 miles per hour, like stop and go traffic in town and whatnot, having the window down versus having the AC on will save you gas. As you increase speeds up over 45 miles per hour the drag due to your windows being open will be more detrimental to your fuel economy than running the AC.

Think of it this way:

Driving in town, 0-40 MPH: AC off and windows down = more $$$

Driving on the open road, 40-40+ MPH: AC on and windows up = more $$$

Most gasoline and oil industry analysts are saying prices could go even higher. If you have a certified Volkswagen Pasadena then you may be sure to be on your toes, especially if your car takes the higher premium, more expensive gasoline.

The average price of $2.80 this past Sunday seemed to be reasonable to most who are used to inclined prices, but for those who study the statistics 32.6 cents more then the same time last year is not exactly a good thing. That’s right, 32.6 cents, which is also the highest it has been since May!

Crude oil prices are not taking a back-seat to the higher prices either, they have risen 4.2% this year as well. More then that, they are known to be 11% higher then mid-September prices alone and even the future heating oil prices have risen to the occasion with a 7% increase!

Here’s why:

1) Insufficient Dollar: When crude oil is bought to be converted for our various uses in our automobiles, it is priced in dollars, and paid in such. When the dollar does not  hold its value correctly, the prices increase. When prices increase on the price of oil before it is converted for every-day use, the profit-loss ratio is assessed at a much higher level causing the bigger loss portion to create a bigger profit amount needed. Thus, gas prices go higher and our wallets get thinner!

2) Refining Capacities: Gasoline refineries have been operating at a much lower capacity then average. Most have all the extra routine maintenance as what is to blame. Although, when it comes to the nation’s refineries it is hard to say that 83.1% is something to be proud of, especially since that is the lowest rate they have been said to be at since March.

The gasoline and oil analysts expect these two reasons alone to affect gasoline and oil prices and have said that gasoline prices are expected to be “essentially static” for the rest of the year. Let’s all hope they are for once wrong about this one!
