Car Seat Front Seat Car Safety Technology!

Volkswagen should be proud of themselves, with four of their vehicles being awarded the Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety!  As vehicles get safer and smarter, there are some key features you want to make sure your next car from Denver Land Rover have installed.  Plus, many of these features come standard with some brands but other places are going to make you pay for them as an optional upgrade.  Buying new gives you the advantage of working with experts about the specific model you are looking at.  Buying used from Cincinnati Used Car Auctions can be a smorgasbord of vehicles makes, models, and years, so you as the consumer need to do a bit more homework before agreeing to buy.  Keep your eye out for some of these safety features and you’ll have a great car!

1)      Look for a car with some sort of tire monitoring system.  The NHTSA requires that passenger vehicles made after 2008 that weigh less than 10,000 pounds need to have a tire-pressure monitoring system.  Your vehicle will alert you if the pressure gets too low and some vehicles come with run-flat tires, which are expensive but convenient.

2)     Some sort of emergency system that will work in your favor in the event of an accident.  GM has been putting OnStar in their vehicle’s for years now, and all models come with one year free subscription.  BMW Assist offers a similar program and Volkswagen models will turn on your hazard lights and disconnect the battery from your alternator if your airbags are deployed.

3)     Passenger sensitive airbags.  If you have a passenger that weighs less than a specified amount, the airbags in the front passenger seat will be turned off.  This is useful if you absolutely must put a car seat in the front seat, as airbags are not safe for babies and small children.  Some of the newer and more advanced airbags can even detect if you are sitting far forward or leaning back and will adjust deployment of the airbags if needed.
